Problem is not reproducible or outdated. More info on current Squarespace Apps here: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206800547
From what I can tell the Squarespace app only allows image uploads at a maximum size of 600px. The template I'm using allows for images at a nice 1280, which I can obviously upload via the web but was hoping there was a way to push them to my site via the iOS app. It's something the Tumblr app does flawlessly and I was hoping it would be just as easy w/ Squarespace.

Correct, the Squarespace app does limit your image uploading to a maximum size of 600 pixels wide. You would email your image to your blog using the secret blog email setting each blog page provides. Then modify the blog post from within the app once it's posted. I've never tried this so I'm hoping nothing strange happens with the image if you open it on the Squarespace app.
I'm betting a larger image size on the apps is a much requested feature. If I had to guess though, I would think the limitation is due to the unreliability of uploading large images across http access when on a cellular connection. While wifi uploading probably isn't a problem, cellular connections can be a pain for developers because of the varying signal strengths and connection drops. Implementing a set size limit, though low compared to other apps, just assures that the Squarespace app is as reliable as possible.
